Computer Staffing Firm to Pay $2.65 Million In Back Wages and Penalties for Immigration Law Violations - 11/23/05
Computech Inc., a Southfield, Mich., firm that places computer professionals at locations throughout the United States has agreed to pay $2,250,000 in back wages to 232 computer professionals and a $400,000 fine to settle immigration law violations, the U.S. Labor Department announced today. In its 10/14/05 press release, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico announces that beginning Monday, October 17, an eligible Third Country National wishing to apply for a visa at a U.S. consulate in Mexico must make the interview appointment on-line via a newly launched website. [ more ]

The Department of State issued a cable on providing guidance for consular officers in how to interpret the immigrant intent provisions when adjudicating student visa applications. It states that "Consular officers ...should evaluate the applicant's requirement to maintain a residence abroad in the context of the student's present circumstances; they should focus on the student applicant's immediate and near-term intent." DOL to issue PERM Labor Certifications in Blue Colored Paper - 11/07/05
The Department of Labor has advised AILA that, "starting Monday, November 7, 2005, PERM certifications issued by DOL will have a new look. The certification will be printed on blue-colored paper. In addition, the certification stamp will no longer be used. This change in paper does not change requirements for stakeholders or for the program." [ more ]
