Presidential Determination on FY 2004 Refugee Admissions - 10/28/03
The president has authorized the admission of up to 70,000 refugees to the United States during FY 2004. According to the memo released, the number "justified by humanitarian concerns or is otherwise in the national interest.; provided, however, that this number shall be understood as including persons admitted to the United States during FY 2004 with Federal refugee resettlement assistance under the Amerasian immigrant admissions program, as provided below". District Office Filings are Being Sent to the National Benefits Center - 10/16/03
The United States Ccitizenhip and Immigration Services (USCIS) office has started a new program by which all new family-based petitions i.e. I-130 's and applications i.e. I-485 that are filed at certain local offices will be forwarded to the National Benefits Center formerly the Missouri Service Center for intake, initial processing, and issuance of EADs and advance paroles. Special Immigrant Religious Worker Program Extended until 2008 - 10/16/03
President signs into law H.R. 2152 (P.L. 108-99). The new law extend the special immigrant religious worker program for five years until 2008. [ more ]

DV-2005 lottery is set to start November 1, 2003 - 10/12/03
The DOS's electronic-only registration for the DV-2005 lottery is set to start November 1, 2003. Entries must be made on www.dvlottery.state.gov and must be received between Saturday, 11/1/03 and Tuesday, 12/30/03. Paper entries will not be accepted. [ more ]

Cap on U.S. Work Visas Puts Companies in a Bind - 10/01/03
