USCIS Update and FAQs on the Addition of Form N-400 to the Direct Mail Program - 09/19/08
On September 12, 2008, USCIS announced that it was adding Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, to the Direct Mail program. As of October 14, 2008, non-military applicants must submit naturalization applications to the designated lockbox. A September 15, 2008, USCIS update provides the lockbox addresses. USCIS Memo: Removal and Detention of Persons Admitted as Refugees - 09/18/08
This recently acquired 2001 memo from Bo Cooper, General Counsel, Immigration and Naturalization Service, details the agency's authority under INA section 209 to detain individuals admitted as refugees who have not applied for adjustment of status within one year of admission. The memo also addresses the agency's authority to remove individuals granted refugee status. [ more ]

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Issues Update On Pending FBI Name Checks - 09/10/08

USCIS Ciudad Juarez office Waiver Appointment System Back Up! - 09/05/08
Warren Janssen, Officer-in-Charge at the USCIS Ciudad Juarez office, has advised AILA liaison that the immigrant visa waiver appointment system has resumed operation effective September 4, 2008, and that the first available appointments are on November 12, 2008. [ more ]

Immigration office (USCIS) Revises Filing Instructions for Form I-751 - 09/02/08
On 8/25/08 USCIS announced revised filing instructions for Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence. As of 9/24/08, USCIS will only accept forms dated 8/25/08 and reject previous editions of the form. Effective immediately, all I-751s must be filed with either the Vermont or California Servie Centers. [ more ]
