US Immigration Changes Receipts to Direct Applicants to Website for Processing Times - 08/24/04
USCIS has changed its I-797 so that, rather than providing estimated processing times (which often have been wildly inaccurate), applicants are directed to the processing time reports on the USCIS website. [ more ]

Immigration Service Center Advises on How to Get Approval Notice By Express Means - 08/23/04
An applicant or petitioner who wants the Nebraska Service Center to send an approval notice or travel document, or to return correspondence or documents to them by express mail (e.g., FedEx, UPS, or DHS) must provide a prepaid express mail return envelope with their application or petition. If the requester's billing information is not provided, the correspondence or document will be sent to the applicant or petitioner via United States Postal Service regular mail. [ more ]

USCIS To End Fingerprinting by Designated Law Enforcement Agencies - 08/23/04
USCIS announces that, on 10/1/04, it will terminate its contract with Designated Law Enforcement Agencies, where some immigrants in rural areas have gone for fingerprints. After that time, USCIS will direct people to the ASCs for fingerprinting. [ more ]

USCIS Reverses Response on Timing of Filing of 7th Year H-1B - 08/23/04
Service Center Operations reverses its previous answer, and indicates that an H-1B extension beyond the 6th year will be subject to denial if is filed before the 365 days have run since filing of the labor certification application. [ more ]

H-1B Filings Reach 40,000 - 08/23/04
According to AILA, USCIS has advised that, as of August 4, 2004, it had received 40,000 cap-subject H-1B filings subject to the fiscal 2005 cap. Of those, 21,000 have been approved; the rest are in the pipleline. [ more ]
