DHS Publishes Notice on Status for F/J Students Affected by the H-1B Cap - Deadline for Filing COS is 7/30/04 - 07/26/04
The Department of Homeland Security notice extends the status of certain F and J nonimmigrant students if DHS has received a timely filed request for change of status to that of H-1B no later than July 30, 2004, with a start date of no later than October 1, 2004. (69 FR 7/23/04). [ more ]
Department of State (DOS) Announes DV-2005 Results - 07/26/04
The results of the Diversity Visa Lottery (DV-2005) results show that there were more than 9.5 million applicants, and provides a statistical breakdown of the winners per geographic region. [ more ]

ICE and EOIR Publish Joint Notice on Countries to Which Foreign Nationals May be Removed - 07/22/04
In a proposed rule published jointly on July 19, 2004, DHS and DOJ specified that acceptance by a country is not required for removal to that country, and that "country" does not require the existence or functionality of a government. The rule also addresses the countries to which one may be removed, including alternative or additional countries. Written comments are due on or before August 18, 2004. [ more ]

Department of Labor Publishes Backlog Reduction Plan - 07/21/04
The Department of Labor's interim final rule seeks to establish a centralized National Certifying Officer to transfer pending SWA and ETA Regional Office labor certification applications for processing. USCIS Sending I-129s to Kentucky Consular Center Rather Than to Posts - 07/15/04
In a July 2004 State Department cable, DOS indicated that, as of July 6, 2004, USCIS has been sending approved I-129s (other than I-129Fs) to the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) rather than to the consular post. According to the cable, the KCC will scan and transmit approved petitions petitions electronically. [ more ]
Last Day to Get Your Visa Revalidation Application In is July 16 - 07/15/04
Tomorrow, July 16, is the last day on which the State Department will accept applications for reissuance of nonimmigrant visas in the U.S. The application must arrive at the St. Louis facility by July 16 to make the deadline. [ more ]
