Erroneous Conrad 30 Waiver Information Rescinded, corrected memo issued - 06/22/04
On June 16, 2004, the Waiver Review Branch of the State Department sent a memorandum to the health department J-1 waiver coordinators in all the states informing them that the Conrad J-1 waiver program had sunset. On Friday, June 18, 2004, the State Department retracted the erroneous memorandum and issued a corrected memorandum. The corrected memorandum affirms that a foreign medical graduate (FMG) is eligible for a J-1 Conrad waiver if the FMG acquired J-1 status by or before May 31, 2004. [ more ]

According to AILA, State Department announced at the AILA Annual Conference that applications for visa revalidations (for classifications C, E, H, I, L, O and P) will no longer be accepted by the Department of State after July 16, 2004. [ more ]

According to AILA, Service Center Operations Director Fujie Ohata announced that, as of the end of May 2004, 16,100 H-1Bs countable against the fiscal 2005 cap have been approved. [ more ]

Customs and Border Proctection (CBP) Conducts Interior Sweeps Of Undocumented Immigrants - 06/11/04
The Contra Costa Times reports "In August, Border Patrol officials rescinded a 4-year-old policy prohibiting agents from pursuing or arresting suspected illegal immigrants except near the border and at highway checkpoints. The recent sweeps in Ontario and Corona, (California) two cities far from the border, are the first such actions in southern California since the policy shift." [ more ]
