Report Finds Immigration Not Linked to Crime - 02/28/08
The Public Policy Institute of California released a report entitled “Crime, Corrections and California: What Does Immigration Have to Do with It?” that finds that immigrants are far less likely to commit crimes in California than those born in the U.S. [ more ]
Immigration Appeals Office (AAO)Finds Adopted Child Must be Lawfully Admitted & Take Oath for Citizenship Certificate - 02/28/08
An AAO non-precedent decision finds that although the adopted applicant child, who lives abroad with her U.S. Citizen father, fulfilled most of the requirements of INA § 322, she must be lawfully admitted and take an oath of allegiance prior to her 18th birthday to be eligible for a certificate of citizenship. Updated CDC Vaccination Requirements for Immigrant Visa Applicants - 02/28/08
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) instructs "panel physicians" designated in other countries for conducting medical examinations of immigrants to the U.S. in coordination with consular immigrant visa processing. In late 2007, CDC announced two changes for these medical exams. [ more ]

USCIS Revises Name Check Policy for various benefit applications excluding citizenship cases - 02/07/08
USCIS previously required that the FBI name check clearance be obtained before any immigration benefits applications were approved, regardless of the length of time required for the FBI name check approval. USCIS issued a revised FBI name check policy: "Where the application is otherwise approvablc and the FBI name check request has been pending for more than 180 days, the adjudicator shall approve the 1-485,1-601,1-687, or 1-698 and proceed with card issuance. The FBI has committed to providing FBI name check results within this timeframe." [ more ]
Overhaul set for guest-worker plan: Bush administration to make dramatic changes to increase numbers of legal foreign workers to harvest crops - 02/07/08
The Bush administration today plans to announce the most significant overhaul in two decades of the nation's agricultural guest worker program, in a bid to dramatically increase the number of legal foreign laborers available to harvest crops. The revised regulations, many months in the works, would make it easier for growers to bring foreign workers to the United States and could alleviate the critical farmworker shortage largely caused by the U.S. crackdown on illegal border crossings.
