Why Denying Driver’s Licenses to Undocumented Immigrants Harms Public Safety and Makes Our Communities Less Secure! - 01/23/08
The question of whether undocumented immigrants should obtain driver’s licenses has been hotly debated in almost every state in the country. But the debate has been a distraction from the real issues that states face in promoting public safety and protecting their communities. States need to create practical, workable solutions, and denying undocumented immigrants licenses is simply bad public policy. It increases uninsurance rates and the number of unlicensed drivers, and it undermines effective law enforcement. [ more ]

DHS Issues Reminder of Citizenship Documents for entry into the U.S. through land and sea ports of entry as of 1/31/08 - 01/21/08
On 1/17/07 DHS issued a reminder that citizenship and identity documents will be required when entering the U.S. through land and sea ports of entry as of 1/31/08. Entry will no longer be permitted by oral declaration of citizenship alone. [ more ]

New Passport Card Applications accepted on February 1, 2008 - 01/20/08

US Lawmakers Criticize Immigration Backlog - 01/18/08
According to the Associated Press reports, "A deluge of immigration applications in the months preceding a filing fee increase last year should have been foreseen, lawmakers on Thursday told Bush administration officials. Previous increases in immigration application fees have been preceded by spikes in applications, said Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif. Application increases have also been seen in years before elections because people want to vote, she said. Some 1.4 million people applied for naturalization in the 2007 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30." [ more ]

How Many Illegal Aliens do we have in the US? - 01/07/08
According to an article by Dan Stein of FAIR, it is estimated that in 2007 the illegal alien population is above 13 million persons. Government and academic estimates indicate that as of 2006 there were 11 to 12 million illegal aliens living in the United States. The Center for Immigration Studies estimated the illegal alien population at 10 million as of November 2004. [ more ]
