USCIS Releases H-1B Cap Usage for the First Quarter of FY04 - 01/23/04
The USCIS announced that, based upon first quarter tabulations, 43,500 H-1B cases that could count against the 65,000 cap for FY 04 have been either approved or are in the queue for adjudication. [ more ]

Court Refuses to extend Diversity Lottery Adjustment Deadline - 01/09/04
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal held that the statutory deadline for eligibility for a diversity immigrant visa could not be equitably tolled where applicant was defrauded by a notary when she attempted to file an application for adjustment of status before the Immigration and Naturalization Service. President Bush proposes a sweeping overhaul of the nation's immigration laws that could give legal status to millions of undocumented workers in the United States - 01/07/04
Under Mr. Bush's proposal, an undocumented worker could apply for temporary worker status here for an unspecified number of years, with all the employee benefits, like minimum wage and due process, accorded to those legally employed. Workers who are approved would be permitted to travel freely between the United States and their home countries, and would also be permitted to apply for a green card granting permanent residency in the United States.
