The other feature allows the use of credit cards for payment of cases filed under the relatively new eFile program. Previously, applicants were required to supply routing numbers, account numbers and other bank information to make payment via electronic funds transfer (EFT). USCIS accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards for payment, as well as debit cards associated with those accepted credit cards. Applicants also retain the ability to pay via EFT. In a December 1st press release, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Eduardo Aguirre stated, “We are leveraging the latest in technology for our customers. Today’s innovations allow us to maximize service options for electronic applications and do so in a secure environment with real time payment confirmation. Customers also want to know information about when to expect a decision on an immigration benefit. It is sound business to inform on, and grant access to, case status from almost anywhere at any time, by way of the Internet.”
